But there's no reason you should have read the books or seen the movies. Furthermore, your characterization might have been worse if you had. Mads Mikkelsen's Hannibal Lecter is nothing like Anthony Hopkins' Hannibal Lecter, nor are the other characters from the show all that much like their previous incarnations.
