You can break up with your boyfriend for whatever reason you want, and I'm not a fan of tattoos in general, but I disagree that it speaks a lot about his personality or whatever... I get that the Death Eaters were horrible fictional people, but IMO there's a HUGE difference between a tattoo of a fictional villain group and getting a tattoo of an actual group that has actually killed real people. I don't see how this is any different than cosplaying as a Death Eater... I mean, it's more permanent and extreme, but I would read it in the same way - that it meant he was a fan of Voldemort, or thought it would be cool, or just wanted to show he was a Harry Potter fan. Not that he actually thought the Death Eaters would be a good thing to have in real life.

Unless there's something OP didn't mention, like if he's said other creepy things that might imply he actually supports Voldemort or supports real Nazis or something.

OP, you can break up with your boyfriend for whatever reason you want, and you don't have to justify it to anyone. If the dark mark tat made you uncomfortable, then you can't help how you feel.

I am a little disturbed at the haters in this thread who automatically would judge someone for having a tattoo supporting a fictional villain, no matter what they think that faction is based on. I'm a big horror fan, and I have horror-themed tattoos, and I'd like to get more. It doesn't mean I'm a violent person because I have a bloody chainsaw on my arm. It does mean that I really dig The Evil Dead series, though.

I also tend to enjoy villains in fictional universes more than heroes, so I can totally understand wanting a tattoo that was a specific homage to a villain. It doesn't make me a bad person or a dick. The dicks are the people who judge me for no reason for what I like about fandom without getting any sort of context first.

Again, it's different if someone I was dating was uncomfortable with it. When you're dating someone, you kinda have to judge them in order to figure out whether you're compatible. If OP's boyfriend's tattoo is that much of a problem for her/him, then they're probably not very compatible.
