I think it's nice to source back people's art and fic because it takes actual skill to draw and write well. I think getting pissy over someone not crediting your doujin scans, on the other hand, is kind of ridiculous.

why is it ridiculous? it may not take skill, but it definitely takes time and effort to scan something nicely. the person who scanned it is taking the time to scan something that they own (and possibly damaging the spine of the book in the process) to share with the rest of the fandom. i see nothing wrong with wanting credit for your time and effort.

Yeah, I don't understand why people need credit for this, though. Why can't you just feel a sense of pride and happiness that you're helping to contribute to fandom? I've scanned things before, and I've had people distribute my scans elsewhere without credit, and I don't really care.

Fic and art is one thing because it's your own intellectual property, but being credited for doujins--while nice--isn't really that big of a deal.

I couldn't even believe people actually got pissy over this until I saw it in action.

I mean, they have literally nothing to do with its creation. Sure, it takes effort to scan something. It takes effort to get out of bed too. The only reason they get away witih it is because it's a fanwork. If they wanted asspats and credit for scanning legit manga they'd get called out as pirates for doing the same work.
