(Anonymous) 2013-06-12 01:52 pm (UTC)(link)I don't have to be super die hard about all of them any more. The tattoos are reminders of places I've been in my life, physical and emotional. They are that for a lot of people. So, when I look at my fandom tattoos, even though my intense fandom love may have waned, it makes me think of all the good memories I have from not only the fandom, but from my real life during that period of time when I was super into that fandom.
Of course people's interests change, but that doesn't mean we don't like a little reminder. I don't watch Xena that often or read fic, but my chakram tattoo always makes me think of when I worked as a club promoter and stayed up all night dancing, then got back to my place with my best friend just in time to watch Xena on the Oxygen Network at 9am. Or sometimes it reminds me of dressing up as Xena for my sketch comedy troupe, or the first time I bonded with one of my best friends while we were watching one of the funnier episodes.
I think judging people because they have fandom tattoos shows immaturity. You don't have to fully understand someone's motivations to appreciate that they are there.
