I femslashed and genderqueered to hell and back in both fandoms with little hassle (barring one ruckus). But as soon as you started throwing around meta to support a potential queer reading of canon, people's hackles went up. *Shrug*

(Anonymous) 2013-06-13 02:18 am (UTC)(link)It also really depends on where you're at, too. If you're in a place that's used to shipping, fic, and art most people tend to live and let live, apart from the occasional drama brigades.
Places that aren't into that sort of thing tend not to be a lot less kind.
Tumblr tends to be where worlds collide, and my god there's a lot of sexuality wank in my other fandoms, so I can only imagine what might happen with ASOIAF, especially with longtime book fans.
