They're saying that the position of power (CEO) actually exists in the real world, in a way that the position of superhero doesn't. That seeing women in movies given real-life-type power is awesome. That's how I read it, anyway.

DA, but what I believe the OP meant was that Pepper's in a position of unambiguous power that exists in the real world. Young girls can't exactly grow up to be superheroes, but they sure as shit can aim for the top of the Fortune 500.

And successful RL women CEOs do exist...i.e.: the heads of yahoo, hp, ibm, etc.

Well, the position of superhero does not exist in the real world. But the position of CEO does. And while there are women CEOs, they tend to be few and far in between, especially in the Fortune 500, and when it comes to the media, you don't see a female CEO character in fictional works nearly as much as you see men in that position.
