Today someone legit told me that the Holocaust is -just like- the farm factories of today. And that a pig/cow/chicken is the same as a human. And I think she genuinely believed this (she is a big PETA person). This makes me very sad.

Remind her of what PETA really stands for: People Eating Tasty Animals.

Uh, most vegans think PETA should shut the fuck up and are going about things really fucking badly, but the PETA Kills Animals site isn't actually any better. It's run by the Center for Consumer Freedom, which is a pressure group that lobbies for lovely industries such as fast food, meat, alcohol, gambling, and cigarettes, and attacks, along with PETA, things like the Center for Science in the Public Interest, Mothers Against Drink Driving, the Humane Society, and the Centers for Disease Control. They try to claim things like trans fats aren't bad for you, diet and meal planning don't help with weight loss, that having a shitton of mercury in fish is PERFECTLY safe...

PETA is definitely bad, but I'd say that the CCF is worse, honestly :-\

Don't expect intelligence. Those folks are fucked. The SJW's of the animal rights movement before SJW was even a term.

I'm pretty sure even SJWs think PETA is batshit. That really says something, if you ask me.

PETA ad campaigns are rife with sexism, ableism, and trivialization of racism, abuse, and the Holocaust. Of course the SJ blogosphere hates them.

Unfortunately, a lot of SJWs are more or less the same way. Those who don't have feminism as their primary focus are really quick to blame everything on white women, and those that do have feminism as a primary focus are often really eager to split hairs over which women you should care about and which you should hate totally.

The sad thing being that most of the people doing this--like PETA's founder--are women.

The holocaust was not the same as factory farms, and pigs/cows/chickens are not the same as humans. However, factory farming does cause a great deal of suffering to the creatures involved, and the degree of willful ignorance and dismissal that some people have for it seems borderline sociopathic to me.

Sure, factory farming is HORRIBLE, but people are just shooting themselves in the foot by comparing it to the Holocaust. I got the message just fine from reading Diet for a New America way back in high school in the 90s and I'm sure anyone can be persuaded from the images of factory farming, not to mention statistics regarding how unhealthy animals obviously lead to unhealthy meat. If anything the fact that the food quality suffers should lead people to oppose factory farming.

Comparing it to the Holocaust is just stupid.

Vegetarian represent here: Even us think PETA is batshit. I'm personally disgusted by the sexism going on, and while I can't assure if they truly kill animals or if it's propaganda (I live faaaaaaaaaar away from the places that get that kind of actions), they ARE creepy and quite misguided.

Let's go part by part, ok?

- There are people who believe any animal life has the same value, no matter if is a human animal or a non-human animal. And that the discrimination towards non-human animals is specism.

- Whether they're right or not on regards of the way they measure life, farm factories are a thing of terror and the way they treat animals is absolutely disgusting. Omnivore people are too willing to let it pass, forget about it, or plainly not care. That shows a distinct lack of empathy.

- Comparing farm factories to the concept of a concentration camp is not far off regarding the treatment of the inmates. Comparing human consumption of animal meat to the Holocaust, however, is morally wrong and VERY misleading and disrespectful of actual Holocaust victims and their families.

- Considering that your friend genuinely feels enough empathy towards animals to value their life the same as a human's, I don't think she makes the comparison as a show of bad will.

What you should do here is make her leave the fuck out of PETA and its brainwashing, and after that, just respect her view of the world, dude.

I specifically said the treatment of the inmates. As in, the living conditions. Not "the point of the concentration camps". (And please note I spoke of "a concentration camp" as a concept, not as an Holocaust-specific concentration camp). Of course that the intent behind an industrial farm and a concentration camp are different.
