I don't care if it's a widely accepted idea; it's not an idea I accept. Most people I know, when confronted with a piece of media they don't care to consume, shrug their shoulders and move on. They have better shit to do than stand around and mock at the people who do consume that media. *I* have better shit to do than stand around worrying about the supposed negative connotations of teenager girls enjoying a piece of media that was designed with them in mind.

I could say something, say, incredibly racist and then say I don't agree with the widely accepted connotation that that statement is racist. And I would fully expect to be taken to task for it. I certainly wouldn't aggressively argue with people who did so.

Just because YOU think that my referencing teenage girls is a negative thing does not mean that it actually is negative. I am not responsible for what YOU read into innocent comments. I am not responsible for YOU seeing misogyny where there is none. I am not responsible for 'widely accepted connotations' either.
