I could say something, say, incredibly racist and then say I don't agree with the widely accepted connotation that that statement is racist. And I would fully expect to be taken to task for it. I certainly wouldn't aggressively argue with people who did so.

But you ARE responsible for how you're reacting to other people pointing out problematic issues with how you worded something. And that's all I'm going to say on the matter.
