(Anonymous) 2013-06-15 09:35 pm (UTC)(link)for the most part, fandom really doesn't care about individual members. especially if a member drops out and then the fandom gets big. more members means more people to keep track of and frankly, unless the BNF was a stellar writer, ...nah people won't really care.

Untrue in my case. I still miss 'stellar' writers who dropped out of my fandom, still re-read their work if they've left it up, and would be overjoyed if they came back.
I think it's true that many people can come and go without causing a ripple, but good writers have a long shelf-life, (even if the fandom does not) just as any good author does.
In any case, if the OP wants to return to her fandom just to enjoy it now it's grown, I don't see anything stopping her.

(Anonymous) 2013-06-16 01:32 am (UTC)(link)Untrue in my case as well. I know people who will forever be heartbroken because certain popular artists lost interest and therefore stopped contributing with fanarts and comics.
There are a few names that get brought up ever so often and my fandom isn't exactly small.
