I thought I'd love the Luhrmann version and even watching it again for my English Lit class I just can't warm to it. I also never much cared for DiCaprio and Danes' versions of Romeo and Juliet. I thought they were passable at best although I loved this film's Mercutio. I think it's a decent film, but nothing special. I hadn't heard they were doing another film version, but I'm always excited to see new versions of Shakespeare's plays.

The Luhrmann version is the DiCaprio and Danes version...? I will totally agree with you on the casting of Mercutio, though. That role, along with Tybalt, were both really well cast.

I know. I just meant I didn't really care for the way they played those particular characters within that film.

I don't like it either, I also felt Mercutio was the best casting.

I'm not a massive fan of the play, so that doesn't help!
