Dominic is really ugly, though. That's not romantic.

(Anonymous) 2013-06-17 11:10 pm (UTC)(link)
That's... Vin Diesel. Your eyes appear to be malfunctioning, anon.

(Anonymous) 2013-06-17 11:13 pm (UTC)(link)
Nope, just means Vin Diesel is ugly (and has an ugly name too). Hopefully Diesel isn't his real surname? And what kind of name is Vin?

(Anonymous) 2013-06-17 11:15 pm (UTC)(link)
It's short for Vincent.

(Anonymous) 2013-06-17 11:15 pm (UTC)(link)
Probably short for "Vincent." That's okay, Ugly!Anon; I know your job is hard on this secret, because you have so little to work with when faced with a man chiseled straight out of solid sex. Go try your luck at one of the Hannibal secrets instead.

They've already posted on most of the Hannibal secrets.

Since when do looks have anything to do with romance? Also, that's your opinion.

So only attractive people (as determined by you) can have romance?

[personal profile] transcriptanon 2013-06-17 11:06 pm (UTC)(link)
[Picture is Dominic Toretto and Letty Ortiz from the film Fast and Furious 6; Dominic is carrying Letty and Letty has her arms around his neck and her legs around his waist.]

They are the most romantic couple I've ever seen in an action movie. It's awesome and I wish FF6 had highlighted it more.

That homewrecking not-dead tramp.

How was this franchise? The trailer for the most recent one looked vaguely interesting, but I confess that if I were to watch them, it would be mostly to look at Vin Diesel. Are they entertaining? Are there any that I should skip? (I ask you because you've clearly seen enough of them to have comically exaggerated shipping opinions.)

I'm gonna jump in and say I think they're entertaining as hell. Except for 2 & 3. Skip those and watch the rest.

2 and 3 suck, but they do establish a couple of important characters/plot points for the later (better) movies.

I say watch them all just once, but brace yourself the laughably bad writing/acting of 2 and 3.

Throwing in my two cents because I love these movies...

I haven't seen the latest yet, but I've seen the rest, and I enjoyed them all on different levels. The primary storyline around Diesel is concentrated in the first, fourth, and fifth (and ostensibly sixth) movies, with the other two movies (2 Fast 2 Furious and Tokyo Drift) only featuring Diesel's character in cameos. Those movies introduce several great (IMO) characters who return in five and six, and some important storyline progression in 2 Furious, but they're widely considered the weakest entries, so really, you can skip them and the wiki summaries will catch you up fine.

The franchise is definitely not what you would call smart and original, but it is incredibly fun. If you like great cars crashing into stuff, heist/robbery/crime tropes played straight, completely outlandish action scenes, a racially diverse cast that traverses a bunch of countries, an emphasis on the importance of family and friendship, and Vin Diesel being hot and taciturn all over your eyeballs, I heartily recommend it. The main downside for me is the main female characters are really cool (especially Lettie, OTP, insanenoodlyguy) but really sidelined and occasionally objectified, but you can't win 'em all.

Given that this was the only thing that got me through The Chronicles of Riddick, I may have to check out these movies. You do make them sound appealing in other respects (except for the sidelining of female characters -- I can forgive a fair bit of objectification as long as the women get to DO THINGS), though.

I'm not sailing the ship hard, but, damn, did I feel bad for Elena at the end. She handled it so well and compassionately just proving how totally awesome she is. Well, maybe she and the Rock can go off and have pretty, pretty babies now.

Um, (not really a spoiler because it's in the trailer) - almost the entire movie was about him trying to get her back, regardless of the danger.

Unless you mean that you're disappointed they didn't have continual sex on the hoods of cars. In which case, okay. But given the plot, which I will not give away, that's rather understandable. They never showed all that much of the sexytimes anyway.

Their relationship was my absolutely favorite part of the first movie, and I'm hyped to see Lettie return in force in the sixth, but I'm sad that it seems they won't get too much time together. Still, it's always really nice to see an established couple with understated affection, trust, and respect between them, no drama, no making gross moon eyes at each other all the time, just normal and sincere. Great, now I have to rewatch the first one...again.

I have a half-guilty adoration for the whole franchise. I'm not usually into car movies or even into action movies, let alone a series of them, but I'm totally into this one. I loved Dom/Letty. It was epic. So I was all D:< NO WAY SHE'S ALIVE at the end of FF5, and am now sad to hear that there is not much Dom/Letty in the new movie.

I'll still watch it. Got to have my Fast and Furious.
