There are very few things he's in that I haven't thought he was great in. I haven't gotten that far in Spooks just yet, so I can't wait to see this masterpiece.

I've been debating over whether to watch Spooks or not because of him being in the later seasons. I think I might make the time to go watch it now.

For me, I thought his acting in Robin Hood was the best. Haven't actually seen The Hobbit yet, though...

Are they? I thought he was doing fine as... a sort of Aragorn 2.0 character, so far, frankly. But not much more.
I mean, I'm a huge fan of some the Hobbit actors, which I discovered through LotR (Blanchett, Weaving, McKellen) but even then I wouldn't say they're at their greatest in the LotR/Hobbit films (which I love) so it wouldn't shock me at all if the same were true of Armitage.

I like him most of the things I've seen him in, never did watch Spooks though because I am not a fan of the whole spy genre thing.

[Picture is a close-up of actor Richard Armitage.]

Everyone goes on about how amazing he is in the Hobbit, but I think his absolute best acting was for Spooks (series 9 was his masterpiece)

The torture flashbacks in Spooks haunt me to this day. The bit where Lucas tries to hang himself killed me, basically.

Edit: That, and "you bear it because you deserve it." Damn, I've just noticed how much I'd like to talk about this series. No one I know watched it.

My personal favorite of his works is and always will be Robin Hood. Because of the black leather. And the dungeon scenes.

But I don't think it matter so much what your personal favorite is, because you still have awesome taste in men. XD

So much yes to those two.

Armitage in Spooks was amazing. I was sold on him so fast. I really wish he'd had the time for John Porter in Strike Back more to develop there. I just can't even since...well. STUFF.

Also, Robin Hood? His development kicked me in the heart. Only decent thing about the series, especially after Lucy Griffiths wanted to go (adored her 85% of the time). North and South = ♥♥♥ I need to watch his parts in Malice Aforethought, The Impressionists, Cold Feet and Sparkhouse soon. As Golden Hour. He was very interesting in the Moving On episode and his small role with Shakespeare Retold. Loved him in that Miss Marple episode, too, as small as that was.

The Thorin is fine, I love it a lot and get weirdly giddy. Not gonna lie about it. But people should look back at some of his amusing moments as well (ohhh god Between the Sheets LMAO OH GOD) as moments his delivery of a line could punch you in the heart.

Actually, Lucy didn't want to go. The writers made the choice to kill her off because they thought it would be a great plot twist. Apparently RA read the script where he kills Marian, rang up the writers and shouted: "what the fuck are you doing??" down the phone. He was vocally displeased about the whole thing and refused to buy into the show trying to do damage control by blaming Marian's departure on Lucy.

(Anonymous) 2013-06-18 07:24 am (UTC)(link)
Seriously? I'm really shocked now. And, man, I'm glad he did that. :| What a shit move yet predictable considering they thought Kate was a good idea. Thanks for telling me, by the way! It just made me adore RA a little more.

Here's a link to the article where he talks about it:

http://www.digitalspy.co.uk/tv/a133104/armitage-opposed-maid-marian-death.html

How they thought replacing Marian with Kate was a good idea is a mystery for the ages.

Belated but thanks again!

Poor, poor choice. smh

(Anonymous) 2013-06-18 12:00 am (UTC)(link)
Wasn't really a fan of him as Lucas, although I think my problem may have been more with the material he was given than his acting...

(Anonymous) 2013-06-18 12:48 am (UTC)(link)
I'm pretty sure you'd have to not have a heart to watch s9 of Spooks without bawling your eyes out about Lucas. Armitage was incredible in Spooks. Same goes for Strike Back and I will forever be bitter that he only got to do one season of that (I know he left for The Hobbit, understandably, but I still wish we had seen more of John Porter).

He was so good in Spooks. But I generally just pretend series 9 didn't happen.

(Anonymous) 2013-06-18 04:38 am (UTC)(link)
His performance was excellent, but that last season wasn't the best, IMO.

North and South. Yum.
