I am always amused that he used it to condemn contemporary Italian political figures he didn't like to Hell.

And Brutus and Cassius got a really raw deal.

I know! That's one of the reasons it's my favorite! I mean, "I will eviscerate you in fiction" was one of my favorite lines in A Knight's Tale and here's a literary masterpiece where the guy does just that. And gets praised for it! Beautiful!

Slight correction: there are also political figures he admired in hell (specifically in Canto XV and XVI).
