(Anonymous) 2013-06-18 03:21 am (UTC)(link)There's nothing wrong with being aware of things in media that are a bit dodgy. It's a natural part of learning that you'll start to become more aware of these things. If you know a bit about advertising, it becomes incredibly hard to sit through all the adverts.
But I don't think you have to feel guilty for watching and enjoying things that are a bit dodgy. Pretty much ALL media is going to have elements that are "problematic", because it's filtered through our culture and the people who write stuff.
Acknowledge it, accept it, and try to focus on the bits you DO enjoy. There may be some things that you won't be able to enjoy at all (I can't watch romantic comedies - never really enjoyed them, and now they're just painful.) But knowing a bit about how society works doesn't mean you're not "allowed" to enjoy entertainment anymore.
It'll get better with time.
