There are a couple of things that would do that.

First, if I'm watching only for the sake of a single character/plotline and the character is killed off/the plot is finished, I'm not going to bother anymore.

Second, if the hero is written as an irredeemable dickhole who doesn't get any repercussions from their stupid actions and I'm supposed to think that they are likable and to root for them, I'm dropping it like a hot potato.

Third, and this is just something I personally dislike: suddenly appearing family members. This person has never been mentioned before even if the show has run for years and now they are a major part of everyone's life. Double the loathing, if they have been supposed dead or are a child coming from the future.

Ohhh I hate when family members come out of nowhere! Like in SPN with the whole Campbell family. Suddenly they have all these cousins and shit (who are never mentioned after that plot line is over).

Yes, the Campbells and Adam. Two strikes for that show (or even more if you count every single Campbell).
