I have never played the games but I was literally raised on the books and I was wondering, how much did they translate into English? Last time I checked, they got around The Last Wish or something? Because the saga develops a lot of things that were just hinted in the short stories, including some social issues.

Also, even if witches look like Playboy's cover, they kinda unofficially rule the world, so yeah. And I thought that for character to be considered a Mary Sue she has to be not only very powerful, but also kinda perfect as a person? Ciri is just this annoying (but for me totally loveable) brat who doesn't know how to handle her life and abilities. How is she a Mary Sue?

I misused the term, of course I don't believe either Sapkowski or GRRM project themselves on their super awesome beautiful girl heroes :D They are both just insanely powerful.
