Are you looking forward to her being all 'dwarves aren't bad!' 'we need to help them!' and 'wow that kili sure is a hot looking dwarf'?

Because I'm not. Yes, she looks kick ass. But from what I can tell, and the stuff I've read, she's going to be pro dwarf which is HILARIOUSLY stupid, and takes away from the importance of legolas/gimli's journey in LOTR.

Honestly, if they drop the romance thing, I'd be okay with her, probably. But romance isn't part of this fucking story, and it never should have been.

And yes I also have issue with Legolas being there too. Because he shouldn't be.

Why shouldn't Legolas be there? His father is the king? Sure, he wasn't mentioned by name in The Hobbit (neither was Thranduil, for that matter). Doesn't mean he wasn't there.

If she is pro-dwarf, I'm pretty much going to block her out. She's Cassandra of Mirkwood or whatever. That will be fifty millions kinds of stupid and, Jackson, you have already patched up these people with the Legolas and Gimli. Please don't cheapen that friendship so lovingly built up with ANYONE being pro-dwarf, man or woman.

This is like only 60 years before the events of LotR and Legolas has to be much older than that. Given the reclusive nature of his community, I have a hard time imagining him being anywhere else without a really good reason.

I don't mind Legolas being there in general, I just think he shouldn't have an extended part. As long as they keep his part to a minimum, imo it will be fine. I just see a problem, if they over use him, mainly for two reasons. First he shouldn't take away to much screentime from the dwarves. Srsly, we already have 15 protagonists (if we include Bilbo and Gandalf), we don't need another one. The other thing is, that you can't really do a intresting storyline with him, because he can not have any character development (since that's supposed to happen in lotr).

So in genereal I don't have anything against Legolas, as long as it's handled well... But judging by the trailer* I am not really positive about that.

With the female elf, I basically agree with you. And again, the trailer wasn't very promising in that regard either.

*I know, I know. A trailer is just a trailer, it may still work out.

I will laugh if Legolas has a personality and a character arc in these films that mysteriously vanishes when we see him in LOTR. :P

That's a lot of assumptions to make. We don't even know if her line from the trailer ("It is our fight.") refers to the Dwarves' conflict with Smaug, or something else entirely. Shit be goin' on in ME!
