Wow, that red hair looks almost as fake as mine. Not sure it's a good look on an elf (even if it does look fab on me!).

Yeah, my mind is on permanent, "Elves are either super light blondes or deep brunettes" mode thanks to the movies. To see any other variation of that is weird. I see redheads being only among the Human, Hobbit and Dwarf races. Like I can't imagine a troll with a mop of red hair.

Why does she look so "off" as a redhead? I look at her and my brain just screams, "WRONG!" Blond, light brown hair, medium brown hair, jet black hair, any other color would have been better. Just that red is so wrong for her.

Are you looking forward to her being all 'dwarves aren't bad!' 'we need to help them!' and 'wow that kili sure is a hot looking dwarf'?

Because I'm not. Yes, she looks kick ass. But from what I can tell, and the stuff I've read, she's going to be pro dwarf which is HILARIOUSLY stupid, and takes away from the importance of legolas/gimli's journey in LOTR.

Honestly, if they drop the romance thing, I'd be okay with her, probably. But romance isn't part of this fucking story, and it never should have been.

And yes I also have issue with Legolas being there too. Because he shouldn't be.

People keep bringing up the whole romance thing. I think the only time I heard it mentioned is a comment by Aiden Turner. Has there been anything "official" official by PJ and co?

For all we know, the "romance" is going to be Fili having a one-sided crush on Tauriel.

I'm tentatively excited. I actually liked how they elevated Arwen's character in the first trilogy, even though the purists hated it.

I'm looking forward to Tauriel too, but I like elf ladies so I am somewhat biased in that regard. I don't know how I feel about the romance tbh, could be weird, could be cute. I shall have to wait and see.

I'm excited about her too, OP. No I don't like the hints of 'a love story', but it might turn out to be nothing and she looks like she kicks a lot of ass. I love The Hobbit as is but I'm all for more female characters in the movieverse if they're written and used in an interesting way. We don't really have enough information about her right now to say she's great or awful so I'm going to be cautiously optimistic.

Plus she's smokin' hot. Her hair might be a bit shocking at first, but I don't find it that big a deal.

I don't mind the character (having not seen her yet). I just can't stand Evangeline Lilly. That's my only problem with her. I wish they would have cast someone else.

I don't know if I'll see this (since I still haven't seen the first one), but I get a little giddy whenever there are badass ladies in things. So I'm excited for her.

I'm more excited about her than anything else in this film. I've complained so much about the tiniest details being changed from the books in the other movies, but for whatever reason I have no problem with the significant addition of a non-canon character.

I guess at this point I don't really care one way or the other because we're no longer seeing The Hobbit. We're seeing Peter Jackson Presents the Hobbit.

Tauriel isn't going to wreck the movie. The constant over-the-top bombastic tone is going to wreck the movie. In the first film the scenes in Bilbo's house were quite good, then we started running, and ran to music involving every instrument in the orchestra, and ran through scenes that looked more like a video game than anything else.

A female elf is going to be the least of this film's problems.

As for the secret, I'm psyched about having a cool elf lady in the movie too. I hope the romance subplot ends up on the cutting room floor, though.

Yikes, I hope that's a photoshop and not a screencap, because the costuming/wig looks terrible. :(

I was a little wary just because I have a feeling they'll play up the Tauriel/Kili thing, but then I saw shots of her talking to Legolas and my brain decided they need to be badass Elf BFFs. So that's what I'm excited about. (If they make Legolas ~in love~ with her or something else terrible I'll be pretty devastated.)
