I'm excited about her too, OP. No I don't like the hints of 'a love story', but it might turn out to be nothing and she looks like she kicks a lot of ass. I love The Hobbit as is but I'm all for more female characters in the movieverse if they're written and used in an interesting way. We don't really have enough information about her right now to say she's great or awful so I'm going to be cautiously optimistic.

Plus she's smokin' hot. Her hair might be a bit shocking at first, but I don't find it that big a deal.

I like her hair, because it gives me new insight into what my headcanon of certain First Age elves ought to look like. It looks much better in the trailer than in stills, though I'd like it even better if it were a little darker.

MTE about the trailer vs the stills. In motion it looks much better. Not sure if I care enough to say I'd like it darker (and I admit to being shallow and finding her ridiculously attractive as is), but I'd be okay with that too.

I'm glad it's light. Isn't it a thing that Elrond and his children are the only ones with dark hair?

In Tolkien canon? That's nowhere nearly true! Dark hair is very common amongst the Elves, in fact it's blond hair that ought to be rare (in Middle Earth). Even the few canon redheaded Elves were described as having dark tones (i.e. more copper than ginger).

Actually, gold and/or silver hair was extremely rare in Middle-Earth. Boring dishwater-blond hair? No data, 'cause it was too boring to talk about.

The Hobbit has no female characters, so it's nice to see one being implemented. I'm not here for a love story as I just want to see a lady kickass with no complications. But I'll take what I can get.

Yup, 100% agreed. I do hope the Kili/Tauriel thing is more of a one-sided crush than anything else (partially because of how special Legolas and Gimli's relationship was), but I've ignored canon romances before and as long as she kicks ass I'll probably be at least somewhat pleased.

I was ridiculously happy about Gandalf's and Galadriel's scenes in the first one just to see her again!
And so what if Kili crushes on her? Eowyn was reduced to "Aragorn's fangirl" for a big chunk of Two Towers and I didn't see people complain about Aragorn being a stupid Gary Stu that attracts all the chicks.

Me too :) Galadriel is a great character and Cate is so beautiful it's always a pleasure to see her on screen.

I think slash fans (or more precisely Kili/Fili fans) don't like that Kili might crush on her. It gets in the way of the brocest.

She defied her uncle, but yes, any fangirling gets completely overshadowed by "I AM NO MAN!" People are whining about Movie!Eowyn and I'm like, how could you forget about that scene?

Frankly I'd be more pleased if instead of lady-warrior-King's-ward-Legolas-special-friend-superred-redhead!Tauriel we got a squad of female elven guards guarding the prison, or just elfing it up in the war. They wouldn't even have to be major characters.

Totes! Lady hobbits might not fit into the story so easily but as for lady dwarves...maybe in the war? IDK. (I know it would never happen but every time I see Dis fanart I long for her to be in the movies.)

God I wish Dis was somewhere in the movies, they totally could have had her standing next to Thorin and Frerin at the beginning of AUJ. The princess under the mountain matters too!

I also long for Dwarven battle-maidens.

She does! Maybe in a deleted scene? ... They probably never even cast her though so that isn't likely. *sigh* But a scene with her near the end of the third movie would be nice.

Actually, her hair looks better in the motion clip than it does in the original pic. The color seems off in the pic, a more garish fake red somehow?
