Only mildly related, but every time I see a picture of him holding his daughter, I think of the interview where he talked about some tabloid that labeled a picture of him with newborn her as "Chris Hemsworth carries a hot dog" or something like that. His "that's not a hot dog, that's my kid!" response was kind of adorable.

That looks like such an awkward way to carry a baby.

How he's doing it is a little awkward, but i used to carry my daughter like that a lot. It was more interesting for her to see what I was seeing than to see my neck/hair and stuff going past, the backs of people, etc.

It always worked on my niece to make her stop crying when she was a baby - turn her around and show her stuff, and she got distracted and settled down.

Yeah, I've carried kids facing out in a similar style but the way he's doing it just looks awkward. Maybe it's the bag? Or the way he's so effortlessly just holding her? Idk. Looks weird man.

Shit I thought that was Colin Farrell.

[Picture is the actors Chris Hemsworth and Elsa Pataky walking outdoors with their baby daughter.]

I am glad he's showing how to be an active Dad.

(Anonymous) 2013-06-22 10:27 pm (UTC)(link)
I love how fierce that baby looks.
And I agree, I love it when het guys piss on gender roles and just take care of their kids. In most cases they're 50% of the parents after all.

I once observed a scene at a playground were a dad refused to push the carriage because "that's the woman's job, honey". I pitied his wife.

(Anonymous) 2013-06-22 10:37 pm (UTC)(link)
Heh, my ex used to pull that shit on me all the time.

(Anonymous) 2013-06-22 11:57 pm (UTC)(link)
I'm sorry :(
But good for you he is your ex now.

I was once at an airport and saw a large group of men, women, and children traveling together. The women were struggling to either fold or unfold a large baby stroller while the men sat and watched. One of them finally got up and stepped in, probably because another man not in the group offered to help the women.

(Anonymous) 2013-06-22 11:56 pm (UTC)(link)
Ugh.
And at the same time the same type of guys always want praise for figuring out how to change the batteries in the remote control and shit like that.

(Anonymous) 2013-06-23 04:01 am (UTC)(link)
THIS. ^^^^^^^

Dads are important, too.

There's nothing worse than having a dad who doesn't give a shit about raising you.

Ugh... That's just... I had hoped we were beyond that by now. Especially since I'm 29 and my dad was never one of those 'that's woman's work' type guys, so I was never really exposed to that kind of attitude. Hell, he was more often the dinner-cooker/etc than my mom. Though she doesn't let him do laundry because he and I do it the same, we just toss everything in together, and she gets all wiggy about sorting. XD

Sweet Jesus, a major diaper bag, a backpack so big and apparently so heavy that he needs a strap across the chest AND the baby? He's like a pack animal in human form. And she's only has a small purse. She must have convinced him that he IS Thor, therefore can bear the weight. That's a good husband and father.

(Anonymous) 2013-06-23 05:44 am (UTC)(link)
He might have even insisted on it as a way to keep up his weight training. I imagine his Thor armor isn't all that light, and he still has to be pretty agile.

(I dated a guy in the military and he was pretty insistent on carrying the heavy things all the time to keep himself in shape for his pack and armor for when he went overseas. I didn't always complain tbh, though I'd try to take my share occasionally)

(Anonymous) 2013-06-23 12:37 pm (UTC)(link)
If you're a muscle hunk you better carry all the shit.

(Anonymous) 2013-06-23 03:16 am (UTC)(link)
Is this something that is practically a secret? :/

(Anonymous) 2013-06-23 05:17 am (UTC)(link)
I love this secret and I agree with it whole-heartedly. I work at an amusement park, and I love seeing dads who really seem to enjoy and work at interacting with their children.
