I've actually been watching Batman:TAS (for the first time) with my boyfriend, and it seems like every episode I have to pause and complain about how everyone in Gotham who isn't a superhero/villain is a complete blithering moron -- especially the police force. I get that it's easier to write a genius by having everyone else around him be an idiot rather than actually having to write him as a genius, but it's distracting, and I feel like I would still find it distracting if I'd watched the show when I was younger. (Not that I'm not enjoying elements of the show, because I am... it's just frustrating that Batman and his allies seem to be the only non-villains in the city with two brain cells to rub together.)

For a random awesome bystander in B:TAS, have you watched 'Beware the Creeper' yet? Because there's a Gotham shop-assistant in that episode who is fairly spectacularly jaded and unimpressed by, well, Gotham. She doesn't even bat an eye at the Creeper busting into her store in search of a costume.

I don't think we've gotten that far yet; we just came back to it after a longish break and a new laptop, and we just watched the two-parter where Catwoman was introduced. But I'll keep an eye out for that episode and awesome shopkeeper-girl.
