OMG! You took the words out of my mouth. I would consider a lot of fics I read Gen. If the focus isn't the pairing but the pairing exists it shouldn't be ignored.

It's like watching a movie like "The Avengers" there are a few pairings in there - specifically Tony/Pepper and others hinted at. But the point of the story isn't the relationship but the "Save the World" plot. The warning for the pairings is, in my opinion, warning for people who hate certain pairings and won't consider them under any circumstances even if they are canon.

People don't get that you can have pairings and not have the story be romantic. For me the Multi tab is indicating that there are relationships of both het and slash that are going to be taking center stage. However if I see Gen with that too, I tend to interpret it that the romance is important to the plot but not the driving focus of said plot.

Ultimately I'll look more at the summary than the tags as an indicator.
