Oh thank god I thought I was going crazy with all these other people talking about how gen means no romance allowed period, I was getting worried I may have had the definition of GEN wrong all these years.

More on topic, I understand that some people have different level of tolerances for how much romance they will put up with in a story, but some gen writers and fans just seem like they are trying way to hard to eliminate the concept of romance from their story entirely, and all the characters end up suffering for it. It's hard for me to take a fic seriously if the author is so averse to intimate interaction, that all the characters come off as professional business associates, rather than friends, family, or even canon couples. A canon couple should be able to have an affectionate scene or two (i.e. hugging, kissing, etc.) especially if it is in character, and the fic should still count as gen.
