...are you actually saying that an architecture degree and an art degree are the same thing? Because they absolutely are NOT. And working as a professional artist and working as an architect are basically two different universes. I've done both.

B.A. in Sculpture, M. Arch; worked as a sculptor, set designer/fabricator, graphic designer; currently preparing for the ARE and making art in my free time. Is there a lot of crossover between art and architecture? Absolutely. Saying they're "practically" the same is, frankly, misleading and a bit condescending to both. The "artistic" professions usually only look alike to people who don't spend much time with those who work in the fields. :)

I agree about engineering underrepresentation in media though - and exaggeration of what engineers can do. Design a fully-functional Impossible Technology reverse-engineered from alien spaceships and composed of dangerous and/or highly expensive materials? Sure, I'll have it by this afternoon! Not.
