Dry cereal. Milk makes it soggy and gross.

I like fedoras, don't get why they're supposedly an MRA thing. Everyone else who hates MRAs talks about them like they're tied together, but I've never seen any MRAs themselves having anything to do with fedoras.

I think the fedora thing is some kind of Tumblr Feminist thing.

I think fedoras are associated with misogynist neckbeards who are trying to look like a film noir character.
It started as a 4chan/reddit thing I think.

I had a friend who wore a fedora all the time before it was MRA associated and he rocked it.
I do prefer certain cereals dry, like fruit loops. They lose all their taste in milk.

Wait, what? I love fedoras too, and I wear them. But I'm a woman. Does this make me a female MRA? Am I a traitor to my gender? Oh noes!

I think you're ok. The rule (so I hear?) is guys in fedoras = gross MRAs, but ladies in fedoras = hot. Maybe cause it annoys the MRAs when icky girls steal their icon?

Fedoras were originally worn by women. The more you know!

Maybe we should start a fedora revolution and reclaim the symbol from the greasy douchebags.

Wasn't Fedora a main female character in the play of the same name who went around wearing that style of hat? (What the hell was it called before it was called a Fedora?) I associate fedoras with the Lloyd-Webber Phantom of the Opera musical because the title character wears one, and remember asking that question a couple of times because fanfic writers would call his hat a fedora, but the play Fedora came out in 1882 and the Phantom musical was set in 1881, so characters in Phantom wouldn't call it that.

Yep, that's the one! If my history is correct, it became a popular style of hat with ladies after that.

+1 on the cereal thing, though I'll have a cup of milk that I drink while I eat my dry cereal.

I think the fedoras thing is maybe a generational thing? They've been pretty popular for the last several years with a lot of guys in their late 30s and early 40s, an age group that is generally ignorant of extremes like MRA. I'm just a tad younger and only heard of MRA for the first time here very recently. And this is the first I've heard of a tie between MRA and fedoras.

yeah, a lot of geeky MRA type guys tend to pop up on dating sites wearing fedoras (and sometimes trenchcoats and other formal menswear.)

From what I can gather, it's an attempt to look like "a gentleman", and hearken back to "the good old days" that they think were a better, more innocent time (unless you were a woman, or black, or both.)

Yeah, no. Where I live, a lot of guys just wear them because they think fedoras are cool. I'm inclined to agree with the above anon that the association is limited. Maybe by generation, maybe by geography, maybe by lifestyle, maybe a combination of those things. I'm sure if I go to work tomorrow and ask people what they think of MRAs, they won't have any idea what I'm talking about. They're not on tumblr or fandom secrets or ONTD or any of the usual places online where stuff like that is present. It isn't some global thing everyone is aware of and the average person would just roll their eyes if they heard about it.

Ugh, fedoras.

*cries*

I fucking love fedoras, I still think they look cool, but they've been ruined by association with generally gross guys who think they're "gentlemen".

The biggest irony? Fedoras were originally worn by women.

I wish I could just wear a fedora every day and look fabulous.

I (a female) wear fedoras all the time bc i am fly as fuck and idgas. My teenage brother wears them because he worships Indiana Jones and he also looks fly as fuck.

(My brothers are fanboys, my other brother wanted a mullet when he was 8 because of MacGyver. After he stopped wanting to be Wonder Woman which was even cuter)
