I guess what I'm trying to say is that you're dealing with a fandom that is much older than tumblr, with fans three times the age of whatever petulant teenagers you might be dealing with there.

Most of the fans who go on about how the 2009 movie 'invalidated' Trek, or 'completely misunderstands what Trek is about', and how the people who like it are uncultured clods are the ones who've been fans of Star Trek since the 60s and 70s.

Pretending that it's a 'Tumblr' or 'petulant teenager' thing is just completely ignoring the bulk of the complainers.

This doesn't mean the entire fandom from the 60s and 70s, however, so you can't generalize from that point.

I know hard core old Trekkies who love the movies.

I know teenagers who prefer TOS over the other series and don't care for the movies.
