For a long time, I was reluctant to watch this show because I was sure I wouldn't be able to unsee Hal. When I finally did watch it, I was right--even though he's a great actor, I couldn't quite separate Walt from Hal.
However, that WASN'T a bad thing for me. In fact, it made Walt's character twice as interesting (and ten times as unsettling).

(Anonymous) 2013-06-25 01:21 am (UTC)(link)I know it's meant to be excellent television but I don't want to unsee Hal every time I look at Cranston and see Walt instead.
If that makes sense...

(Anonymous) 2013-06-25 03:03 am (UTC)(link)But really, Cranston is just a really great actor and I'm sure he and the directors were aware that some people were gonna be going "Hey it's Hal!" and made sure to avoid alllllllll of Hal's mannerisms in his portrayal of Walt. Seriously, even though Walt spends a lot of time hilariously epic-failing at half-baked schemes, he still manages to feel nothing like Hal while he's doing it. Not even the time where he's stumbling across the desert in his tighty-whities while trying to film himself.
