...am I the only one here who liked this movie?

(Anonymous) 2013-06-26 12:18 am (UTC)(link)
Probably.

(Anonymous) 2013-06-26 12:59 am (UTC)(link)
Yeah. No.

(Anonymous) 2013-06-26 12:18 am (UTC)(link)
No. I really think everyone's gotten too used to the action/comedy thing Marvel's got going.

...actually it's probably just because I don't watch a lot of movies. So my standards can't be as high as some people here, who have watched a LOT of movies and have more specific criteria for them. Film is not my preferred medium.

On the general fandom side, everyone is used to the more shippy and fun Marvel movies, and on the DC fandom side, everyone is unhappy at how badly they portrayed Superman's character and his backstory.
And it was just not a great movie in general.

I liked it. I was surprised by how much hate there is for it. It's not great but it's nothing bad enough to warrant all the vitriol.

(Anonymous) 2013-06-26 01:37 am (UTC)(link)
I think I like it about as much as I did Batman Begins, and that's about as good as can be expected.

(Anonymous) 2013-06-26 03:00 am (UTC)(link)
BB is a fair comparison to MOS. I think everyone was expecting a Superman version of "The Dark Knight" and while I agree that the structure was horrendous in certain parts (especially the beginning), it wasn't an awful film. Hopefully the sequel will be stronger.

(Anonymous) 2013-06-26 04:04 am (UTC)(link)
I understand the vitriol. It's because the trailers were pretentious and hyped as fuck, and then the actual movie was brainless.

(Anonymous) 2013-06-26 08:58 am (UTC)(link)
To be fair, I think some people thought it wasn't great, but they didn't care much for it. It only become rather heated was when people who did like the film got angry at everyone who said it wasn't great, even the people who were more "meh" than "HATE IT!"

This pretty much. It was no masterpiece, but it was fun.

(Anonymous) 2013-06-26 01:19 am (UTC)(link)
I floved it, but then I am an easy superhero nerds. It had a journey of self-discovery, and an attractive man in tight clothes, some rescuing, a kickass mid-air battle, and evil was defeated. I was happy as a clam!!

I did think the pacing? or something was off, because I spent most of the time wondering when the 'run-up' would lead into the ACTUAL big conflict of the movie, and then in the middle of the climax I was like "Oh, ok, I guess this IS the big part!" Still loved it. And I thought the guy who played Superman was awesome, he had the quiet rock-solid confidence that the "Lois and Clark" tv version I most love did.

.../teal deer, sorry lol!

(Anonymous) 2013-06-26 01:26 am (UTC)(link)
Nope, I liked it too... much better than the one than Superman Returns, which even Kevin Spacey couldn't save. This one, at least felt as if they were actually trying, even if Amy Adams doesn't really fit my brain picture of Lois... and wooohhoo I'd like more shirtless Henry Cavill.

Storyline could've been tweaked to be a bit better, but still not as unhappy with it as I was over Into Darkness.

(Anonymous) 2013-06-26 01:56 pm (UTC)(link)
See, I liked Superman Returns way better. I actually cared about what was happening in that movie, instead of feeling like I was supposed to care because Superman.

(Anonymous) 2013-06-26 01:35 am (UTC)(link)
I know a lot of people who enjoyed this movie. But it's still not a -good- movie.

(Anonymous) 2013-06-26 02:36 am (UTC)(link)
Yes, -good- movies are the ones -you- enjoyed.

(Anonymous) 2013-06-26 03:01 am (UTC)(link)
HAW-HAW

(Anonymous) 2013-06-26 01:17 pm (UTC)(link)
Actually I enjoy a ton of movies I would personally call terrible, and there are a lot of movies that are objectively good that I find boring, so no. There's a difference between "enjoyable and fun to watch" and "well written, well acted, original and intelligent".

Ah, you are one of the people who believes art can be objectively good or bad.

I don't really feel like having that argument *again* so I'll just say I disagree.

I liked the movie for my own reasons; others liked it for theirs, or disliked it for another set of reasons. It's all perfectly okay.

Tried too hard in action scenes and a little too destructive, but I really enjoyed it.

(Anonymous) 2013-06-26 04:54 am (UTC)(link)
I liked it a lot while I was watching it, but then thinking about it later that night I was like "yeah...this had a lot of flaws"

I enjoyed it, not thinking it was revolutionary or anything... but it did the job. And I didn't expect anything more. And I'm fed up with the "one joke every 2 minutes" routine that Marvel had lately, unless it's Iron Man. I don't feel super hero movies need to have constant jokes.

For me Man of Steel was a good notch above Superman Returns because at least the actors (Lois and Supes especially) were more believable to me than the ones in Superman Returns (who were wayyyy too young and dull to look like Superman had gone away 5 years before and Lois was a Pulitzer Prize winner).
nightscale: Starbolt (Man of Steel)

I liked it too, aside from the original films MoS's version of Superman is one I actually cared about though I did prefer the fist half of the movie over the second.
