I've done it once but in my defense, it was in the context of a theology class. I imagine if I were in a theology class and anybody with a religiously inclined name walked in, I'd point it out and possibly make it a running joke. Maybe that's just me.

But I agree in an everyday situation, it's be pretty strange given that only a handful of the angels are actually named in the bible.

And one of the most well-known angels has a name that, at least in English, is so common that commenting on it would be the odd thing, I'd say.

That's a good point actually, my father is called Michael and I didn't even think about the biblical element because it's such a common name (if that's the one you're referring to).

I think the only one I've heard of that's rare enough as a name these days but a recognizable enough angel to be commented on was Gabriel. That one I did automatically say "like the angel?" for.

yes, Michael ... and though I'm a lapsed Catholic, the only other one I can remember is Gabriel.

(And in Jesuit fashion, I can, however, remember things like seraphim and chreubim and hosts and the differences thereof.)
