Man, I hate when authors take fic down. If you don't want to be associated with it, change your user name or put a disclaimer in or something. One person's "badly written" fic is another person's favorite comfort re-read. It's anywhere from annoying to heartbreaking to try and find something and only get a broken link.

This.

I abandoned my first account because as much as people seemed to love my writing I could NOT bear to look at them. I really wanted to just pull them off, but I hated it when people did that to me, so I just said farewell and never looked back.

This is actually a great idea and I wish more writers did it. It's so sad when most of the fics in older/smaller fandoms disappear.

I always save art and fic I love for private re-reading/viewing.
It's YOUR problem if you think such things will be online forever.

Goody-goody for you, Miss Snitty.

*I* have all my favorite fics transcribed to hand-bound books with illuminated lettering. I wouldn't want to be one of those fools who assumes digital media will always be there forever.

I think I love you.

And you've never come to a fandom late? Or had a hard drive crash on you and you lost all your files?

(Anonymous) 2013-06-28 02:14 am (UTC)(link)
as a writer who has taken her work down many times, I want to make a general apology, because I honestly never thought anyone would miss it. I mean maybe no one did, but now I wonder...

da

apology accepted, for what it's worth (dunno if I've read your fics specifically, but, eh, it's a nice sentiment and I appreciate)

Same, if an author seems the type or has a track record, I'll download their fics and share alike through emails.

Myself, I tend to abandon accounts with fanfic and fanart all over the place, but I don't take them down so those that enjoy can still find them.

Word.

Such a gigantic fraction of what's available on line is of such terrible quality that nobody's even going to bother registering the thought that bad older works reflect poorly on the creator, because that's too much effort. People just hit the back button and go somewhere else.

But finding that something you liked is now gone? That doesn't remove it from the memory of its fans, it just makes them annoyed at the creator.
