It wasn't because of female!Watson that most of us flipped out, it was because it was a pointless American remake. The Yanks have a reputation for ruining whatever they copy from the Brits, or to a lesser extent, the Aussies. They rarely seem to be able to come up with anything good on their own so they take popular shows and dumb them down which makes them shitty.

Yes because British TV never rips off anything from the US/rest of Europe and flushes it down the maw of banality.

Sometimes. Far often the other way about though. See 'The Office', 'The Thick of it" etc
