(Anonymous) 2013-06-29 08:42 pm (UTC)(link)Recovery is a hard road, but it can still be traveled. I don't know if he's gotten into AA at all, but if he's having trouble being hopeful, you could always pick up the Big Book and have him read the Stories section. Every single tale ends in triumph.

(Anonymous) 2013-06-29 08:49 pm (UTC)(link)It occurred to me it might be helpful to tell you... My husband is a recovering alcoholic himself. The difference between me and you is that I met him after he'd already been sober for a little while. As of right now, he's been sober approximately 8 years.
I'm sharing because I want you to know that it's possible, and I want you to be able to tell your husband that it is.

(Anonymous) 2013-06-30 04:44 am (UTC)(link)For myself, he and I had been together for around 10 years prior but had broken up because he started drinking a lot. So, after we got married I found out he was still heavily drinking and was hiding it from me. Suffice to say though, that he's better but hasn't fully committed to sobriety yet.
I pray that he will someday soon and I'm glad that he's progressed well over these two years, so things like your story are hopeful to hear. Thank you. =)

OP
(Anonymous) 2013-06-30 04:46 am (UTC)(link)I did appreciate that they gave him PTSD to work through (and his character growth through the whole trilogy is great) but I was hoping that since in the comic-universe he battled with alcoholism, that the movies would touch on it too. I've heard that because Disney bought Marvel that it's the reason they dropped that plot.

When I first saw Iron Man I realized their relationship was like my husband and me. I got into Invincible Iron Man and was surprised to find that Tony had been sober for years. I had hoped the movies would touch on his alcoholism and his success so, that in turn, my husband could be hopeful. I know it's silly but their comic and movie relationship give me hope that he can conquer his addiction.

All the best to your husband and to you.
