I remember once, when scans_daily was still on lj (and lj wasn't a crapsack in general), someone posted a scan in the comments about 90's powergirl saying that her lack of symbol/boobs window was because she like it like that, and if anyone else didn't liked it then they would have to deal with it. And then there was the original post, where PG was crying because she "couldn't find a symbol yet somethingsomething superman etc."

And now I wish I could find that particular scan boohoohoo.

The new Power Girl whiny excuse makes me cringe compared to the previous statement about being proud of her body. She used to be empowering, damn it. :/

I remember getting into serious daylong arguments back then with 'feminists' claiming that the first one (I'm proud of my body) was just turning a strong powerful woman into a cheap whore (Exact words in one such debate were something like 'Worthless, used, blow-up doll' that one has stuck with me) for male titillation.

Moral of the story: No matter what explanation a conventionally attractive female character has for showing any skin, it will be wrong and misogynistic to someone. I suspect that's why they kept coming up with different explanations until they found one that wouldn't upset someone. In the end I see the decided to give in and just give her an ugly costume. Of course now I've heard people calling her civie persona a racist airhead, so it seems Peeg fans can not catch a break.
