Don't care about Sherlock, but The Empty Child + The Doctor Dances are still my favourite DW episodes.

Those were the first episodes of New Who I ever saw. What an introduction!

I've watched those 2 episodes so many times! I even bought a few of the books because I loved Captain Jack/Rose/Nine adventures so much and there weren't enough of them. I will forever love Stephen Moffat for giving that to me.

Plus it gets my daughter to want to eat bananas, because the Doctor said bananas are good! She'll even tell people at the grocery store that they're a good source of potassium, even though she doesn't know what that means. :)

Me too! I think it's odd how Moffat hasn't lived up to those since really. They are definitely the best DW episodes ever done, and Capt Jack is at his best as well. It's strange how Something can peak at the start and then just slowly go downhill.

I think this sometimes happens because the person starts out with certain restrictions; in some cases VERY MUCH so. Then, as they get more famous, they're given a freer hand, and their flaws become more obvious because no one is reigning them in.

Haha, M Knight Shameaboutmylastfilm.

Good point, it may well be that, the other thing I often wonder is if their first idea is their best idea as it were. Of course Moffat wrote things before, but this was the first series of Doctor Who he was involved with.

M Knight Shameaboutmylastfilm.

LOL! I've never seen that one before. I think it's the best one yet. (-:

I often wonder is if their first idea is their best idea as it were.

That's a pretty good theory, too.

I didn't make it up, wish I did! It's a nickname some film critics have for him. It's very apt..

(Anonymous) 2013-06-30 09:58 pm (UTC)(link)
Odd how you personally feel that way, but you acknowledge that this is subjective and accept that other people may believe he exceeded them and that others still may feel those are weaker Moff episodes.

That is what you meant to say.

I think it kind of goes without saying that it's their personal opinion.

(Anonymous) 2013-06-30 10:56 pm (UTC)(link)
Well they certainly weren't saying it was, so guess it did go without being said. Trouble is if you let subjective go without being said then it sounds a lot like someone trying to claim objective fact instead of subjective opinion so it is probably one of those things that really oughtn't go without saying.

This. Those two never fail to give me the feelz. It's everything I love about Nine in two episodes. If you wanna know who Nine is, watch that two-parter.
