See, thing is, I could actually get that. I could see how someone would love this version of Irene on her own merits.

My problems with the episode come firstly how the narrative treated the character of Irene in relation to the other characters (I'm never getting over the fact that she was made to lose so that superhuman Sherlock could keep his win rate), and secondly from this version of Irene in relation to the original version (again, it's the part where she loses that gets me, when there exists a version where she wins).

I could understand loving this Irene. What I don't love is how she was used. Does that make sense?

No one really won that one. It was a score draw. She fucked over UK intelligence big time, and she left a code for Sherlock specifically to break. She auditioned him and he passed is about as good as you can say.
