(Anonymous) 2013-06-30 10:57 pm (UTC)(link)But the thing is, I love Irene Adler, because she is the only character in Sherlock I have identified with, and not in the sexual liberalism part (I'm prudish and I like it so) but in how she played the game. I just found out so amazing to see a normally smart human going toe to toe with geniuses, even when she had to outsource the planning, maybe that's part of the appeal for me. I can relate to that, I'm not the smartest; so the idea of "playing your hand" so well is almost inspirational, sort of my own version of "you can do anything you want and be anyone you want to be"
I would have liked to see her succed in her plans, or at least get out of doge on her own, but part of me aprecciates the fallibility of the character. It's more real and relatable than Sherlock's 100% sucess rate. I don't relate to him at all.
And the idea of falling for someone despiste your orientation. That's always been something very intriguing to me. Could I fall in love with a woman?
Of course, SiB is not the best episode, but it's my favorite for these reasons. I admire Irene Adler, and she is the only character in Sherlock I feel a connection with.

(Anonymous) 2013-06-30 11:13 pm (UTC)(link)My problems with the episode come firstly how the narrative treated the character of Irene in relation to the other characters (I'm never getting over the fact that she was made to lose so that superhuman Sherlock could keep his win rate), and secondly from this version of Irene in relation to the original version (again, it's the part where she loses that gets me, when there exists a version where she wins).
I could understand loving this Irene. What I don't love is how she was used. Does that make sense?

Rock on, anon. There are more of us than you'd think.

But that's you and 99.9% of the detractors, anon. If they'd done that it would've been true to the canon and you wouldn't've seen hardly any of the outcry.

FYI, given the changes to the character, I'm GLAD she lost---and I still hate the episode.

(Anonymous) 2013-07-01 03:45 am (UTC)(link)Try being a lesbian, and you will quickly discover that this is no longer an "intruguing" idea, but something that every second dude thinks is possible for you with the right
cockman.Fuck that shit, Moffat.

(Anonymous) 2013-07-02 02:51 am (UTC)(link)I get that as a woman and a lesbian I am supposed to be offended by this episode/treatment of her character but I can't help agreeing with pretty much everything in the comment you replied to. I loved her.
