She's not "semi-Mischa". She flat out tells him that Mischa will have to live on in him.

Different anon, but I kind of read it as she subconsciously had feelings for him on a level that the drugs and hypnosis brought out, as he worked to break down her restraints and barriers to bring out hidden desires, evidenced especially in the scene where she tells Paul Krendler what an awful person she really thinks he is.

Not to mention Clarice's sanity really takes a beating throughout the novels. She continuously exercises poor judgement and reckless, almost downright suicidal behavior (especially when she goes to save Hannibal from the pigs. Realistically she should have not survived that experience, and in the novel she does nearly die from an overdose of tranquilizer) Add a big dose of loneliness and you've got a recipe for disaster.

but tl;dr Thomas Harris in my opinion purposefully left it in a VERY grey area so the reader could come up with their own interpretation.
