An author (massively popular) whose signings I went to twice had her hands completely covered in band-aids for autograph sessions, and I think she even specifically modified her signature to make it easier to write with only her thumb and forefinger. I always figured that autograph sessions like that are really rough on the hands in general. Don't know how gloves would help though...

Still that sounds a bit weird to me. Band aids all over your hands are not going to help anything, gloves would be more sensible. Band aids stop your skin breathing, they aren't good for you and should only be used to cover something really open and sore.

Was it at the end of a long book tour? Maybe the bandaids are from blisters she ended up with after long signing sessions before yours?
