I just listened to a new audio play with Mel and Six (with the original actors) ... And I *liked* Mel. She wasn't cardboard. I think the playwriter tried hard to make her resourceful and interesting.

Back in the Classic Who era she was. Then again there were a lot of problems with ColinB too. The audios that have been done since are leagues better though. It makes me wonder, just how much of what was going on was with the actors and how much was the way the Beeb made tv back in those days? We all know that the crew and writers were getting hammered every which way from Who's incredibly bitchy fanbase, the upper echelons of the BBC who hated the show, and by crew and bit part actors who were often given a Who job as punishment. That had to have an effect, of course both actors also have more experience now.
