Man, MLP pony truly lucked out in its massive array of quality parodies, crossover, alternate universes and spin-offs. I've only watched two episodes of the actual show but spend HOURS reading fandom content. This fandom does have a whole lot of awesome to offset the other extreme of brony weirdos.

Yeah. It's actually because the show leaves a lot of its setting and rules ambiguous and the plots simple and its characters archetypical but with at least some traits to make you wonder: "if only they actually went somewhere with..." or "but what if...!" or "I wonder what the backstory of [character/event/location/item/magic/whatever in present time that was only briefly touched upon] is..." that it leaves a lot of room for expanding on it in the minds of the viewers. Plus, add the weird coincidence of adult fans latching onto it at the right time, and, boom, more fan content than is probably sane.
