I know the feeling. So many games that were never even released over here, at all.

This. The amount of great games that have never seen a PAL release is ridiculous. It's good that newer consoles are getting rid of region-locking, but that doesn't help with playing older classics, or get around international shipping fees :|

Curious; which newer consoles are getting rid of region locking? 'Cause Nintendo handhelds never had region locking until the DSi and the 3DS has it now too. :< Is Sony stopping it on their new systems or something?

(Anonymous) 2013-07-03 02:41 am (UTC)(link)
Microsoft is getting rid of region locking with the XBOne.

PS3 is already region free.
So is PS4.

The handhelds are region locked, I think, not sure about Vita cards, per say, but obviously the digital titles are locked to the respective PSN stores.

(Anonymous) 2013-07-03 05:38 am (UTC)(link)
The Vita's game cards are regionless.

I ended up keeping my DS just because I have sooo many games never released in my region. I'm sad I can't play 3DS ones though, I'd buy them :/ Region locking excludes so many customers :S

[Picture is the Japanese cover picture of the 3DS video game "Harvest Moon: A New Beginning". It has a young woman and a young man wearing farming clothes next to many farm animals and produce, in a cute art style.]

Fucking announce new games at Electronic Entertainment Expo and I don't even get this one. Fuck North America getting all the good shit while we wait and wait and wait with no fucking news at all.

Fuck this, no news anywhere except wiki says we'll get it in the third quarter of 2013 but there's NO ACTUAL sources for that ANYWHERE and no game sites even list it!! One of the highest-rating games they've ever made and I'm never going to get to fucking play it and preorder bonuses are obviously the fuck out. FUCK THIS. PIRATING and NEVER buying it.

I'm sorry that you've been waiting so long to get HM:ANB. I hope it comes your way soon.

Can you pirate 3DS games tho? I thought they hadn't made emulators for it yet.

Man, that sounds awful OP. Sorry. :( I hope you eventually get to play it!

No actual sources? From anywhere?

(Anonymous) 2013-07-03 12:56 am (UTC)(link)
The announcement was less than a month ago. Lmgtfy.

Dunno about OP, but I'm not Europe. So it costs a bit to import from UK if I want a game. Because of the different country publishers

Re: No actual sources? From anywhere?

(Anonymous) 2013-07-03 02:27 am (UTC)(link)
OP was specifically raging because of what s/he thought was a fake/vague European release date.

(Importing for the 3DS is a whole other can of worms because of region locking.)

Re: No actual sources? From anywhere?

(Anonymous) 2013-07-03 02:49 am (UTC)(link)
ooh I misinterpretted.

(importing s+ region locking is the biggest can of worms ever. at least pokemon is being released world wide XD i hate it when the internet explode over some fun and i can't join in)

(Anonymous) 2013-07-03 01:26 am (UTC)(link)
Don't know what you're talking about, but you sure like the word Fuck. A lot.

(Anonymous) 2013-07-03 04:20 am (UTC)(link)
i lol'd pretty hard at this

(Anonymous) 2013-07-03 03:05 am (UTC)(link)
Is the 3ds region locked so you can't get a EU game from NA? I seem to recall for the 3DS there was a region lock but not between those two regions, so you could import games, is that possible OP?

And NA does not get all the good games, there have definitely been times EU got games we didn't. But really you should be more bitter that Japan has everything and picks and chooses what we both get.

[personal profile] antoj 2013-07-03 03:55 am (UTC)(link)
3DS and DSi specific games are region locked. It's a shame since the first DS wasn't locked. :(

Europe is also a different region from NA. So importing isn't an option.

(Anonymous) 2013-07-03 04:45 am (UTC)(link)
This makes me wonder, are their 3DS games japan doesn't get? XD

(Anonymous) 2013-07-03 05:35 am (UTC)(link)
Absolutely. Mostly it's the U.S.-specific sports games and Western properties (Marvel and DC superheroes, TV and movie tie-ins) that never make it to Japan. But things like Scribblenauts, Rayman, and Bit.Trip Saga never came out there either.

In fact, (sorta relevant to this secret) the 3DS remake of Harvest Moon: The Tale of Two Towns was never released in Japan.

(Anonymous) 2013-07-03 06:11 am (UTC)(link)
wasn't it? harsh

(Anonymous) 2013-07-03 10:38 am (UTC)(link)
I wouldn't really call the 3DS version of Two Towns a remake, though. It was pretty much the exact same game with an added mini game and a lot of freezing issues and lag.

Oh I KNOW your pain, OP. It blows my goddamn mind when publishers don't even bother to give their games to the REST OF THE DAMN PLANET because there's 'no market', or if they do it's years later. Fuck that noise.

Thanks to this secret, I just found out the release date of ANB. Sweet! I'll have to wait a bit more, but I'll buy it for sure.

I felt exactly like you, OP, about the fact that Europe was left in the dark about the release date of ANB. NA fans of Harvest Moon are playing the game and enjoying it, plus there's this whole new wi-fi exchanging gifts system, so there's a lot of hype. I just hope the hype hasn't died by the time ANB is released to Europe. Also, hopefully they won't make typos or grammar mistakes when it's released here.

Also, sorry to burst your bubble, but you can't pirate ANB. Well, actually, you probably can, but there's no 3DS emulator that I know of, nor can any R4 card support 3DS games at this time, so you won't be able to play it unless you actually buy it and play it on your 3DS. There's no way around that, unfortunately.
