After seeing OP's behaviour in this thread, I'm going to assume this lecturer isn't that much of a hardass, and even if she is, that it's actually more likely that OP is just as much of an entitled whiner baby student.

I never demanded, I said I expected, though to be more accurate it was only a hope. What you read as batshit is simply matter of fact to me. It's this thread's assumptive behaviour and insinuations that I'm automatically in the wrong because other people's hardass instructors were the good kind that I found irritating from the start. You're not obliged to give me the benefit of the doubt about it. Similarly I'm not obliged to be overly nice off the clock to people who make offensive assumptions and defend them even after being more informed. I could have been nicer but so could you.

Oh, relax, she's a paediatrician with decades under her belt. There's nothing I or anyone else can do that would rub her wrong because she's way beyond giving a fuck about us, which we think is where her attitude and unintentional but consistent screwing-over of students comes from. I'm not the only one. The 'Ethel' tip was passed on by somebody else as a way to cope.
