Hard ass teachers were my favorite kind of teachers. I love teachers that make me try hard.

Same; one of my favorite teachers throughout all of my schooling was my middle school Latin teacher. She didn't take bullshit from anyone, but was fair about it. Lots of people didn't like her because she was kind of a hardass, but I thought she was great. Mostly because I actually tried in school.

'I'm going to berate you about how irresponsible you are even though it's my department and secretary that dropped the ball and made the mess' isn't the same kind of hardass.

And how am I supposed to know what kind of hard ass OP means?

Agreed. But I did have one teacher in high school who was just one of those teachers that just hated their students. It was demoralizing to realize halfway through the school year that extra effort yielded the same results as no effort. So when I come across stuff like this, I usually assume that's the kind of teacher the person is talking about.

It isn't high school so she doesn't have to make her students try, it's on us if we sink or swim at this stage. But she does have a certain attitude of going through the motions because retirement's around the corner and everything else matters more than the students she's with at the moment, and that's no help. But the way she'll wheel herself across a room on an office chair looking just like Ethel in her wheelchair kind of softens the blow. :P

I always thought it sad her son in law didn't get to kill her for so long.

I like to thing subconsciously his need to do that is why he killed everybody else.

I have a lecturer who's a noted hardass. I've had unpleasant run-ins with her before. I was really not looking forward to more classes with her. Then somebody pointed out how much she looks like Ethel. Now every lecture is a fight to keep from laughing.

Kind of reminds me of a former teacher of mine who use to make math clas a living hell to me until someone pointed out he looked like Peter Griffin. I couldn't take him seriously anymore and stopped being afraid of him.

After seeing OP's behaviour in this thread, I'm going to assume this lecturer isn't that much of a hardass, and even if she is, that it's actually more likely that OP is just as much of an entitled whiner baby student.
