Please don't judge anybody from either party by what you see online. Look up what political parties are in your state/area (Young Democrats, Republican Party of Wherever, etc.), check out their websites, go to their meetings, talk to their members, read some of their literature, then make a decision on what party to join.

This is very sound advice.

Unfortunately, in the current political system, it's followed by: Realise that the Republican social policies are actively and energetically devoted to hurting people and the Democrats are economically toothless. Give up in despair. Try to move somewhere where local politicians can do good in a parish pump sort of way and dream of a world where kindness has a place in polity.
