I always felt so bad for her. She tried SO HARD. Granted, she was trying for crazy things, but damn. The sheer work she put into her crazy was impressive.

Same here. Though I don't think it was crazy, as such. I just think Hyacinth is fundamentally bad at people. She had an idea of the life she wanted, the social structure of it, but it seems like the idea came from a TV show or something and she had no idea how to make it work in real life with real people. But she just. Keeps. Trying. No matter what. Nothing she does works and no-one ever reacts to her the way she expects them to, but damned if she'll let that stop her.

I think it's mostly that all her life she's wanted something she doesn't actually understand, but she'll keep fighting for it anyway because it is what she's wanted all her life.

In some ways she's pitiful, and painful to watch (and live with). But there's also a lot to respect in that, really.
