you don't have to adhere to a label at all, really. if someone asks for my political alignment i tell them i'm independent. folks who want to know how you align yourself tend to jump to conclusions when it comes to specific issues.

if you feel you're liberal overall though then i'd use the label "moderate liberal" to distance yourself from the negativity that usually comes with identifying with a certain alignment. that won't keep people from jumping to aforementioned conclusions tho, but it might make them think twice before assuming you're extreme.

Yeah. And if OP id's with liberal values but just feels off-put by loudmouthed liberal people, they can always just stick the general label of "progressive," which is vague enough to distance themselves while still getting the gist of it across.
