Good news is: all current scientific evidence suggests there is no afterlife! Consciousness appears to be an emergent property of the brain that does not survive death.

(I've always found this comforting. Not existing didn't bother me for the billions of years before I was born, so I doubt it will bother me for the billions of years after I die.)

To be honest, that horrifies me. The thought that my being will disappear and the entire universe will go on for billions of years until it eventually dies. I can understand why humans made up various afterlife stories. Being human is extremely depressing!
