I had the same feeling when John Green fangasmed over getting an Advanced Reader Copy of one of her books.

Noooo say it ain't so. John Green is a CC fanboy? :(

(Anonymous) 2013-07-04 11:53 pm (UTC)(link)
Yep. I made a secret about it at the time, but I don't remember when it was. It was during some library conference though, and he was excited about a lot of books he was able to pick up. But only that one made me cringe.

Who IS John Green, exactly?

I hear people talking about this guy, and they seem to either love him or hate him.

Young adult author who also is talent in some very successful Youtube channels: his own, which he does with his brother (vlogbrothers) an educational history channel (crashcourse) and he also plays FIFA soccer on his brother's gaming channel (hankgames) and I think he's still doing stuff with the mental floss channel.

Ooh, crashcourse! Those videos are great.

All I used to know about John Green is that tumblr makes a game of trying to make posts mentioning him popular enough to get back to him.

The teen romance author du-jour.

I generally dislike his themes and the genre he writes for so I'm not fit to write a description, but out of the popular authors with questionable work, he's probably the most benign. Also is a pretty popular internet personality.

He's an author, and half of the team of Vlogbrothers on youtube. They (he and his brother Hank) created the fandom of "Nerdfighters" who spread awesome and decrease world suck. (their words)

He wrote the hipster classic "Looking for Alaska", then "Paper Towns", "An Abundance of Katherines", "Will Grayson Will Grayson" and "The Fault in Our Stars".

It's true, people either love him or hate him. I love the fandom he's created, but I personally find his books formulamatic, predictable and a bit pretentious. Though I do owe my passing of my college world history class to his "Crash Courses" on youtube.

Hope that helped.

a fucking hack who loves his manic pixie dream girls

(Anonymous) 2013-07-05 12:32 pm (UTC)(link)
white dude who waxes poetical about how ~marvelously unique~ it is to be a ~nerd~ while churning out manic pixie dream girl novels and stanning for transphobic white girls

The same thing happened to me... I mean, I can't completely blame him, because I do think Cassandra Clare's books are fun to read, if not exactly good.

I wouldn't say he "fangasmed" so much as was happy to get one, and I feel like that was mostly because he's friends with her, though. He used to live in NYC and was part of her group of writer-friends. Not that him being friends with her is any better than him being a fan, really...
