What I don't get is the consistent accusations of "stealing" as if she was pulling one over on her fans. She credited the lines/paragraphs she snagged. At the bottom of every chapter you could find the shows/books/etc she took the quotes from. And in any case, I continue to be amazed that the fandom is still hurling accusations of plagiarism against a fic writer which is a huge gray area to begin with but most people just live and let live.

More to the point: it's pretty shocking that people hate her so much that they submit secrets expressing disappointment/annoyance that she has friends. As if it's not enough to revile her over and over for a decade but you actually long for her to be abandoned by everyone she loves. What the fuck is up with that? Does that make the OP any less a horrible human being? God damn.

Honest to god. Why give a fuck about this?

I agree with every word. Christ, if people judged me based on how I was 10 years ago compared to how I am now, I would seem like a socially inept teenager who only said obnoxious quips. People can grow a lot in 10 years and be completely different to how they are now. The people who are holding this decade old internet grudge are coming off way worse than Cassandra Clare is at this point.

CC was a grown woman, a college graduate, when she plagiarized her shit. she wasn't an innocent, clueless teenager.

It still hasn't changed the fact that people are citing her behavior that happened over a decade ago. A lot of people change in a decade. There's noting something that happened in fandom within a few weeks or months and then there's being ridiculous.

She did NOT credit the lines/paragraphs she snagged. She copied word-for-word several PAGES of Pamela Dean's "Secret Country", and it was not credited. It was eventually credited AFTER the fact, AFTER she got banned from FFNet, specifically for those pages of plagiarized content. She eventually even got permission from the author, but all of this was after the shit hit the fan.

I read her work at the time it was originally posted, and I watched all of this go down, and because it was such a big brouhaha, I do recall the details. Plus, there are written accounts of what happened and when it happened.

I don't care about the rest, and I agree, I don't think about CC enough to worry about her friends or hold a grudge, but the plagiarism charge sticks because it WAS outright plagiarism, not a pastiche, not a homage, and not fanfic. Word-for-word copying.

no, she went back and added those credits after the first wave of fandom drama with her blew up. trust me, they weren't there originally (and that's what got her banned from ff.net back in the day)

also, wat

writing fanfiction is miles away from copying passages from a published novel verbatem in said fic

and here I point out that plagarism is the least of some people's concerns with her. she stole money from a cancer charity ffs and lied about all kinds of other stuff and then bullied people who tried to decry this
